With
these four drawings, Tomáš Uhnák and I develop the idea of the
Metabolic Rift. In the first two we try to highlight the social and
economic impacts of this phenomenon. The third illustration develops
the possible alternative forms of distributing nutrients within the
framework of our advanced liberally capitalist societies. The fourth
then points out the historical background of the origin of this
wholly negative ecological situation. In terms of form, the drawings
walk a fine line between serious scientific illustration and
satirical cartoons of the second half of the nineteenth century.
