#SelfieNation
2021-2023

hand-printed analogue enlargements, 30x 20 cm
During
June 2021, self-portraits with the hashtag #selfienation on Instagram
caught my interest. For me, these selfies represent several important
themes such as social aspiration, unpaid work, the normalisation of
the human body and self-alienation. For this reason, over the next
two weeks, I made hundreds of screenprints of posts with this
hashtag. I then adjusted their contrast and brightness, printed them
on A4 paper and hung them up on a framework opposite a wet school
blackboard. I then took pictures of the reflections of the different
selfies on this layer of water using an analogue camera. I ended up
with eighteen films of negatives, full of variously deformed and
blurred portraits. I selected forty-four photos that I am currently
enlarging in a dark room.
